A Filipina is currently making a name in international modeling scene. Twenty-three years old lass from San Pedro, Laguna, Stephanie Retuya has successfully made it to the Top 3 of the first cycle of the pan-Asian modeling competition Asia’s Next Top Model (AsiasNTM), an adaptation of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model (ANTM).
Stephanie Retuya started as a part-time model over a year ago, and a full-time mother to her baby girl. While she’s at it, she discovers that modeling is not work to her because she feels completely in her element. Her stint in the competition serves as her comeback to the modeling scene after it was cut off short because she got pregnant.
Asia’s Next Top Model started with fourteen representatives from different Asian countries: China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
The aspiring top models underwent crucial weekly eliminations until the Top 3 finalists were chosen. Retuya’s entry to the Top 3 was never easy as she belonged to the bottom two five times during the elimination rounds. But the budding supermodel proved her Filipina spirit and survived through the finals.
Stephanie Retuya will compete with Taiwan’s model-aspiring actress Kate Ma and Thailand’s Jessica Amornkuldilok for the top prize.
Aside from the prestige of being the Asia’s Next Top Model, the winner will also win the following prizes: 100,000 Singaporean dollars, modelling contract with Storm Model Management, three-month all-expenses paid working trip to London, opportunity to appear on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, a chance to become the new face of Cannon IXUS’ 2013 campaign, and a brand new Subaru XV.
The final episode of Asia’s Next Top Model will be aired on Ferbuary 17, Sunday, 8:55 p.m., on Star World (Sky Cable Channel 48). It will have a replay a week later on Studio 23 and Velvet. The Top Model franchise creator Tyra Banks is reported to appear on the finals.
