One thing I hated about Smart Bro Prepaid was its 30-minute block metering, in which you are charged P10.00 every 30 minutes of logon time. Once you’re connected, P10 pesos (consumable for 30 minutes) will be automatically deducted from your current load. I had a hard time with this consumption-rate method because I had to set my alarm or timer to make sure that I won’t exceed on my browsing time. Even a minute extension will result to a P10.00 charge.

But no worries now, though, because Smart Telecom has implemented its per-minute browsing on Smart Bro Prepaid Internet. To avail of this service, subscribers should register and logon to http://smart.com.ph/Connect/. Register using your Smart Bro Prepaid Internet number. When logged on with your account, click on the “Per Minute Packages” and choose from:

P150 Smart Bro Per Minute Package – 7.5 hours (equivalent to 450 minutes) valid for 7 days
P100 Smart Bro Per Minute Package – 5 hours (equivalent to 300 minutes) valid for 4 days
P60 Smart Bro Per Minute Package – 3 hours (equivalent to 180 minutes) valid for 2 days

Of course, “smart” as they are, they won’t offer this promotion without gaining advantage, the browsing time for each plan was decreased. For example, for the P60 package, instead of the 3 hours browsing (P10 per 30 minute), the browsing time was reduced to 2 hours and 30 minutes. But despite this, I like their per-minute charging because I can log off any time I want.

The iPhone is exclusively distributed by Globe Telecom for Philippine users. So the Smart Telecom users asked, “Can we use our Smart SIM with iPhone?” During the early release of iPhones, you can use your Smart SIM card by unlocking it. However, problems have been coming out such as problems on making calls.

Several users at the Macintosh Philippines forums said that making calls is suddenly not possible with iPhone using Smart SIM however there’s no problem in using the phone for text messages.

One user, William Yu, of It’s hip2b2 has successfully unlocked the iPhone for Smart Post Paid kit without using any software and supersims, that Smart users may use. He notes that users should use these tricks and cracks at their own risk. Please don’t proceed if you don’t know what you’re doing.
