TV Ratings: Is it only a Filipino’s concern?

I was searching for the TV ratings of Gossip Girl, one of my favorite American series but I could only find articles about the TV ratings war between GMA and ABS-CBN. Thanks to Lozada, this network war has ended (for now).
Is it only a Filipino’s concern? Should we be concern in the first place? Why are Filipinos so concern with TV ratings? The answer is simple. Filipinos are “loyal” to everything and TV networks take advantage of that loyalty.
This GMA vs ABS-CBN issue is no longer new. I remember when I was in high school, some classmates argue on the same thing. Listening to them, I saw no point of debating which one is better because my principle then was I couldn’t care to something that doesn’t make any importance in my life.
