Yao Ming’s Shanghai Sharks will go home win-less in the recent PH-China friendship games, as the former Houston Rockets’ captain’s team was defeated in two separate games by the Philippine national men’s basketball, Smart Gilas Pilipinas, and PBA Selection on May 6 and 7 respectively. The PH-China friendship games were held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena (MOA) and Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
PH vs China Friendship Game 1: Gilas defeats the Sharks
The visiting Sharks bowed to Gilas as the Chot Reyes-mentored squad dominated each quarter of the game. Gary David led Gilas with 14 points, while Japeth Aguilar, June Mar Fajardo and Gabe Norwood contributed 11 points each. Jeff Chan chipped in 9 points, while Garcia added 8 points. Marcus Douthit only had 2 points during the game.
Gilas’ victory against the height-advantaged China is surely a good head start for their FIBA Asia Championship Cup bid in August 2013.

PH vs China Friendship Game 2: PBA selection routs Shanghai Sharks
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) selection defeated the Sharks in a last quarter rally 80-71 win during the conclusion of the 2-day PH-China Friendship Games.
Beau Belga lead the Franz Pumaren-coached PBA stars and scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The game will be telecast on Saturday at Sports 5’s AKTV on IBC 13 after Game 4 of the PBA semifinals series between the Alaska Aces and the San Mig Coffee Mixers.
