TV5 and Solar Sports partner to bring the 27th FIBA Asia Championship 2013 to Filipino homes. The two sports broadcast networks were granted airing rights for the highly-anticipated championship cup, which will have its run on August 1-11, 2013. The Philippines will host the said event and is set at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
All Philippine team games will be aired live on AkTV, the sports broadcasting arm of TV5 and Basketball TV or BTV, which is managed by Solar Sports.
The tournament will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain. Seventeen teams will compete for this biggest basketball event in Asia.
According to the FIBA Asia rules, the host nation Philippines and 2012 FIBA Asia Cup champions Iran were automatically qualified. Japan, Qatar, China, and Chinese Taipei, being the top four teams during the 2012 tourney also are direct qualifiers. Other teams from East Asia, West Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Gulf will be joining the tournament.
