iPed: The iPad Replica
Can’t afford the iPad? Well, there’s a cheaper version of the high-selling gadget, called the iPed or Apad, of course, it’s China made. It has only been just few months since the iPad was released by Apple, Inc., and as expected, it sold millions since its first released, similarly, replicas of the said gadget are expected to arise in the market.
Pieces of the iPed were spotted on sale in Shenzhen, China last May 28, 2010 at a much cheaper price (about a quarter of the price of the iPad) at about $105 (the iPad sells about $500 plus). It is said to come with an Intel processor and also runs on Google’s Android OS. FinanceManila has compared iPed and iPad specifications and features and see if the iPed can be a good alternative for the iPad.

Next Attraction: Nokia N8
I’ve been a gadget freak for 10 years, but due to financial incapacity, most of the gadgets I liked were beyond my reach. So I settled to affordable touchscreen phones like the Samsung Star Wifi, which is the one I am using right now. Now that I have my job, my fancy to gadgets was heightened. I want to upgrade my phone so I am eye-ing for the Samsung Jet as an option. However, when I heard that Nokia is releasing their first Symbian 3 device – the Nokia N8, I decided to just wait and save up for it because I predict it will cost around P25,000 – P30,000. Problem though is there is no exact date of release in the Philippines. I’ve been browsing the Nokia Philippines website but there was no indication of the release date.
The Nokia N8 has every feature I like for a cellphone – a high-resolution camera with flash (12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash), an enough amount of memory (Internal memory: 16 GB and MicroSD memory card slot, hot swappable, up to 32 GB) for my huge music and movie collection, a good speaker (powered by Dolby Digital), a speedy connectivity (with WLAN IEEE802.11 b/g/n), and other features.
For a complete list of features and specifications, visit the Nokia Philippines website.
To fully appreciate the features of the Nokia N8 phone, watch this Youtube video after the jump.

Sun Cellular VS Red Mobile Unlimited
I recently subscribed to Sun Cellular’s Easy Line Plan 250, and so far, I’ve been satisfied with it. For only P250.00, I am getting unlimited Sun-to-Sun texts and 20 minutes allocated each day Sun-to-Sun calls, which can be accumulated, if not consumed, on the allocation for the following day. I have to load every month with regular load, though, to maintain my unlimited Sun-to-Sun texts.
Other plans also are available for Sun Cellular like, Easy Plan 400, Plan 350, Plan 450, and Plan 600. For details about this plan, visit the Sun Cellular website now.
Currently, a new fad in unlimited texting is brought by the newest 3G unlimited network in the Philippines – Red Mobile – powered by the strongest network, Smart Telecommunications. With Red Mobile Unlimited you can choose the different plans:
1. Plan P25 – with 60 texts to all networks, valid for 1 day. To register, text UNLI25 to 9949.
2. Plan P125 – with 300 texts to all networks, valid for 7 days. To register, text UNLI125 to 9949.
3. Plan P500 – with 1000 texts to all networks, valid for 30 days. To register, text UNLI500 to 9949.
Although this kind of unlimited texting plans are different from the postpaid offers by Sun Cellular. For me, I will still prefer the postpaid offerings by Sun Cellular.

How does the sample ballot for shading look like?
Okay, so tomorrow (May 10, 2010) will be our National and Local Elections and it’s the first automated elections that we will have. To vote for a candidate, you have to shade the oval beside each candidate. Unlike in the previous elections, you already have the list of candidates in the ballot so that you do not have to list the candidates you are voting for.
To give you the idea of how the ballots look like, the COMELEC has made available sample ballots for ARMM (PDF Format) and non-ARMM areas. They also included a downloadable local ballot templates for local positions in your respective areas.

Is the Philippines Ready for the Automated Elections?
Tomorrow will be a historical day for all the Filipinos because it will be the first automated elections that this country is experiencing. And we hope, it wouldn’t be the last one considering the several technical failures of the PCOS machines, the delay in its distribution and several other issues regarding it.
With the glitches observed with this PCOS machine, can we say that the Philippines is totally ready for the an automated elections? If you were to ask me, I would say NO, and a big NO! And this is very apparent with these last minute failures and issues. It’s election tomorrow and we are still having these problems which leaves as thinking what will happen tomorrow. Sana, we’ll have a historical one.

Download Microsoft Office 2010 Beta for FREE!
I am currently enjoying the new Microsoft Office 2010 to suit my needs for computing, presentation, typing, etc. I can even blog using it. Microsoft Office 2007 was okay, but Microsoft Office 2010 is far better. It is still in Beta version though so expect some instability. So far though, I have not experienced any problems with the new office.
Microsoft has listed Top 10 Things that make the Microsoft Office 2010 better than previous versions. Download it now while it’s free. Expect it to cost much, but I guess it will all be worth it.
Note: You have to have a Genuine Windows OS to download this beta version.
