Is January 24 holiday in the Philippines?
Pursuant to the provisions of Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1083, otherwise known as the code of Muslim Personal Laws in the Philippines, January 24, 2013 is declared a non-working Muslim holiday called as Maulid-un-Nabi or Birthday of Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.).
Muslim holidays are officially observed in the Provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, and in the Cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga.
Under PD No. 1083, all Muslim government officials and employees in places other than those enumerated above shall also be excused from reporting to office in order that they may be able to observe Muslim holidays.
