Are banks open on February 25, 2013?

February 25 has been declared a special holiday ONLY for schools as stated under Proclamation 456 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III last August 16, 2012 to commemorate the 27th Anniversary of EDSA or People Power Revolution.

Local banks have not released banking schedule or hours on this day but the Malacanang Palace has already re-iterated that February 25 will not be a holiday, which means that work  will go on as usual.  Thus, banks will be opened on their usual schedule.

In connection with the February 25 special holiday for schools, Department of Education (DepEd) on Sunday via its official Facebook account reminded that workers in the DepEd Central, Regional and Division offices have work. Teaching and non-teaching personnel reporting to schools need not go to work.

All other works on government and private offices will go on as usual.   This also means that employees will receive their regular pay rate with no premium pay required. O nly employees in private schools, whether academic or administrative personnel, will have a non-working holiday and shall be paid in accordance with the rules for pay on special (non-working) days.
