Nicolas Cage Switzerland ski accident death hoax spread online.
Nicolas Cage trends on Twitter early Friday because of his alleged death. According to Global Associated news, cage died in a snowboarding incident on 17th January at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland.
“Witnesses indicate that Nicholas Cage lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Nicholas Cage was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death,” the report reads.
This report is entirely FAKE! Global Associated News is however known for spreading false and celebrity death hoaxes in the past. Last February 12, 2012, GAN has also spread the false report pertaining to actor Keanu Reeves death, which actually claimed to have occurred also in Zermatt, Switzerland, with basically the same circumstances and cause of “death” to that of Cage.
If you were an unsuspecting visitor of the site, you would actually think that the news is real. This news has been picked up by sources, which made it spread like wildfire in the internet, deceiving more and more people. The false story has gone viral on Twitter.
Another indication that there was no truth in this story is the absence of reports pertaining to Nicolas Cage’s death from reliable and major news sites like CNN, CBS or even a local Switzerland news report about it. Further, fake news reports of similar content but of different actor’s name [like Christopher Reeves, Vita Crave (whoever he is)] were also posted. So I guess, the website or source just randomly select actors’ name to put on the article. Moreover, the website has misspelled Cage’s first name, which should be Nicolas instead of “Nicholas” as what was reported in their article.
The death hoax was maybe intended also to advertise the ski resort mentioned, if such actually exists.
