Best April Fools Day Pranks

April 1 is April Fools Day.  As the name implies, it is the day for pranks and practical jokes. Surely, you’ve been pranked by your friends and loved ones.  So what was the best you have experienced?

Some websites provide good practical jokes that you can use this April Fools Day.

April Fool Zone provides great classical, office, and computer pranks.

Ex: Set the victim’s alarm clock for the middle of the night and hide it somewhere in the room where they will have to get up and scramble around to turn it off. (This works even better if you sneak in after they go to sleep and unscrew the light bulb in their lamp. Then they’ll have to search for the clock in the dark!)

TipJunkie listed some of the great April Fools’ Day Pranks especially the safe ones you can do on your household.

A great video from Household Pranker is also on YouTube, giving tips on how to prank your roommate.

On Post-Graduate Intership

Time flies so fast. Four years ago, I was a struggling medical student. I couldn’t believe that I actually managed to surpass the trials medical education entailed. I will be an intern in the next 2 weeks! But I don’t know if I should breath for relief or sigh for anticipation and worries. I know that finishing my four years in medical college and entering internship mean that I am facing a tougher life and a greater responsibility.

When you are an intern, you are expected to have acquired most, if not all, the knowledge you need from your four years in medical education – that’s a big responsibility you say. Being admitted to a national hospital (in Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center) makes me worried all the more.

However, Nietzche’s said that “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” This has been my motto in life ever since I started my medical education.

I am crossing my fingers for this new chapter of my life. I know prayers and perseverance will do the trick.

A Man Sells His Life on eBay!

Ian Usher, a man selling his life on eBay!

Years ago, I’ve heard of a small town auctioned on eBay. I thought it was one of the craziest auction I had encountered. But then, come another crazy auction: a man selling his mother-in-law (or it was the other way around?). And now, a divorced man sells his life on eBay. He says the initial trigger was his breakup with his wife. Now, you can call it crazy love.

Ian Usher realized he needed a fresh start so he put his entire life up for sale on eBay, from his toys to his toilet paper, ABC News reported.

The man has an odd way of letting go and moving on, literally!

Flashback: What is my primary goal in life?

Warning: If you hate drama, don’t read the post below.

“What is your primary goal in life?” The transparencies stated at the start of our discussion in Behavioral Science. Then, four choices were given: a) To finish the medical course; b) To make lots of money; c) To be with our loved ones; and d) Others, and we were let to explain our answer.

I am sure, if it were not for the choices given, I will be having a hard time answering the question. Sad as it is, but, there comes a point in my life, even at this stage, where I don’t really know what goal should I direct my mind to. I didn’t even plan to go at this field. I just waited for a sign from God if I was suited for this field. He lit the green light so I gave it a “go”. Before, half of me wanted to pursue my desired course which is on Information Technology. That was the time when I admired hackers and aspired to be one them. No joke. I admired how they sneakily hack bank accounts. But the other half wanted me to stay in my current field. This happened before our Upper Respiratory Module examination which was last Thursday; I was telling my friends that I am already tired of sleeping late at night, studying. My brain’s already tired. Then I asked for a sign again. If I passed the exam, God really wanted me to stay, but if failed, maybe I will rethink things over. I wasn’t confident of what I have studied. I haven’t finished studying my anatomy. I haven’t reviewed on the diseases we tackled. When I took the exam, I was not equipped with the stockpile of knowledge I should have accumulated before taking the exam. There were even parts where I was closing my eyes and the letter that kept appearing on my head was my answer. There were like twenty to thirty items. And in our case, if you missed those points, you’ve already missed a lot! A point is already significant especially when you only got 59% for the exam. My school is that stern.

To train at a public or private hospital?

One of our juniors asked which is better for training or internship, private or public hospital? And this question has been in my head also since the start of our post-graduate internship application.

I have been exposed to both private and public hospitals during our clerkship. I am now at the ancillary department so I am already out of hospital duties (yehey!).

To answer the question, I had to ask these things to myself:

1. Do I prefer toxic or benign duties?
Public hospitals cater for the common people so it is expected that you’ll have toxic duties. But in return, you are exposed to more learning: you get to encounter several cases, including the rare ones. On the other hand, private hospitals are expectedly benign, well except maybe for some selected large hospitals.

Flashback: Self-Evaluation: How well do I know myself?

As part of our Community Medicine in first year medicine, we were asked to evaluate ourselves. Here are the twenty things I found out about my self.:

1. I like myself. Definitely I do. I was born with four limbs, with complete hearing and blessed with eyes. I am also here in this college, that’s so much to be thankful for. I know where I am going, what are my aspirations in life. My life is definitely likeable. I enjoy life most definitely.

2. People can trust me. Though there are times that I unconsciously burst out a secret, I can still proudly say that I am trustworthy.

3. I never put up a good front. What people see outside is what they will also dissect inside.

4. I trust myself – my feelings, my deeds, and my abilities.

5. I enjoy people – with different ethnicity, religion and beliefs. I can mingle with everybody. I never was choosy when it comes to friends. As long as I feel comfortable talking with him/her, I befriend him/her. I never was snob to anybody. I never considered social status as a requirement for friendship.

6. I know what I want in life and how to fulfill them. Being a medical doctor was a childhood dream. I have met many obstacles but never gave up. There even came a time that I thought I couldn’t make that dream a reality. That was when I received a low grade in Biology back in high school. But fate led me to the right path – for my choice, i.e. on the biological field, one step away from medical school. And now that I am here in medical school, I would give my utmost best to do good and eventually fulfill my dream – that is, being a doctor.

7. I enjoy being the sex I am. When I was in my elementary years, I was boyish. I thought being a member of the opposite sex was an advantage since as I have observed, there were few restrictions from parents. Being a girl would be less fun, so I thought. But when I was starting to reach my teenage years, I realized that it’s fun being the sex I am. I started to act a typical teenage girl do. And now, I am so much enjoying being a woman.

Self-Esteem Inventory

I scored 58%.

This inventory has statements built into it to detect how honest your responses are. Is it possible that in your effort to appear to have a high self-esteem level you did not anwser all the questions acurrately? If so you might want to take the assessment again to get a more realistic picture of your self-esteem level.

Indications are you are comfortable enough with who you are to not hold yourself back from having a happy life.

You are certainly aware you are not perfect and you have moments of self-doubt. At times you might even chide yourself, and be overly sensitive to the criticisms of others. However, none of the above makes you distance yourself from others for long, or stop moving toward your goals. While you may not be comfortable in certain social situations, they do not intimidate you to the point of fleeing. Nor are you so riddled with self-doubt that you are rarely able to speak your mind, or defend your position on a particular issue.

Fortunately, like most of us your sense of self-worth does not allow you to make a habit of devaluing yourself unrealistically. You do not forget to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. In relationships you do not habitually play the role of tyrant or lamb. Overall you are well balanced and adjusted.
