How to set up your PLDT MyDSL modem settings?

For over a year, we have been satisfied with our PLDT MyDSL internet connection as our main connection at home.

One thing I found disadvantageous with the PLDT MyDSL line is setting up the modem settings, especially after a PC reformat. When our home PC was struck by a Trojan horse, I had to make a system reformat. I had to call the support hotline regarding the settings of the IP address, the server address, and other modem settings before I can use the internet. PLDT MyDSL modem settings are not preset so you have to enter the settings manually after a system reformat.

So before everything gets messed up again, I copied the modem settings that I should enter every time I have decided to reformat.

To enter the modem settings,
- Go to Control Panel.
- Click on the Network and Sharing Center
- Right click on the PLDT MyDSL connection icon.
- Then click Configure.
- Enter these settings on their respective fields:

How to make your website iPhone friendly?

Since the advent of 3G-abled phones and smartphones like the iPhone, users have been resorting to mobile browsing to surf the internet.  This should also prompt website owners to make their sites and blogs iPhone friendly.

So how to make your website iPhone-friendly?

1. Make your website ‘light’ by avoid using flash, scripts and lots of images that could result to slow-loading time.  iPhone users are on-the-go browsers, meaning they need less time to open a website.  Besides, not all 3G network providers can provide a fast downloading speed.

2. Use a publishing software optimized for iPhone like WordPress. Further, it is also easy to publish your blog entries using your iPhone using an application called WordPress for iPhones, so it could also be at your advantage using WordPress.

3. Choose your webhost well.  Slow-loading time can also be a result of a sluggish web server.

You don’t actually need to create a separate page especially for iPhone users.  All you need is a little optimization for your websites to make it iPhone users-friendly.

Tips on Saving Money during the Holidays

The Christmas holidays are coming and it’s considered as the longest of Christian festivities.  By longest, it means chains of merrymaking, and series of spending.  So how can you exactly save money during the holidays, not ending up broke for the next whole year round?

With the hype that holidays usually bring, people always have the tendency to buy more and spend more without taking into account the consequences that their actions can bring.

Hence, it does not necessarily mean that because it is the holidays you have all the reason in this world to buy whatever you want and spend how much you want. Some people contend that it’s just once a year, so better give what you have.
moneyroll 300x199 Tips on Saving Money during the Holidays
The problem is that giving something just for the spirit of the holidays does not mean you have to spend gold. You can still give something that will be deeply appreciated without having to spend more money.

Here’s how:

1. Make a budget and stick to it

The problem with most people is that they find making a budget relatively easy but sticking to it is doubly hard. So what’s the point of making a budget when you do not know how to conform to what you have stated in there?

Making and using your budget should always go hand in hand. Therefore, when you make your budget this holiday season, it is best that you follow the things that are written in it so that you would be able to save more money.

2. Live within your means

Of course, everybody would want to give gifts because that is what the holiday season calls for. However, it does not necessarily mean that you have to spend more than what you can afford.

The trick to saving more money is to always live within your means. Spending more than what you can afford will definitely bring more problems than you can afford to solve.

3. Personalize it!

As they say, it is the thought that counts. Hence, there are no better ways to show how much you have thought of those people this holiday season than making personalized gifts.

4. Shop and compare

It really pays to shop around and doubly better when you compare prices. You will never know which items are better priced than the others are when you do not compare their values.

The point here is that you should not be confined to one shopping portal. Try to look for other items, usually in thrift stores and consignment shops, where you can find the best items at a lower price.

Indeed, shopping for the holidays can be fun, but you don’t have to be spendthrift. Nowadays, you really just have to be practical.

Can you use a Smart SIM pack in iPhone?

The iPhone is exclusively distributed by Globe Telecom for Philippine users. So the Smart Telecom users asked, “Can we use our Smart SIM with iPhone?” During the early release of iPhones, you can use your Smart SIM card by unlocking it. However, problems have been coming out such as problems on making calls.

Several users at the Macintosh Philippines forums said that making calls is suddenly not possible with iPhone using Smart SIM however there’s no problem in using the phone for text messages.

One user, William Yu, of It’s hip2b2 has successfully unlocked the iPhone for Smart Post Paid kit without using any software and supersims, that Smart users may use. He notes that users should use these tricks and cracks at their own risk. Please don’t proceed if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Flashback: Watching movies with your dad? Think again.

I dug up my entries in my Xanga and it’s a shame to realize that I was posting non-sense, boring posts (I couldn’t even think that I had readers!). Most of them contained mushiness and some with hint of humor. And oh, I was also fond of giving tips, nonsensical tips at that. So now, I came up with putting my favorite Xanga entries under one category which I will call “Flashback.”

This was my post where I provided “some tips” to my readers if they are planning to watch a movie with their fathers. The post was in reference to my dad. We were watching Troy and Kill Bill Vol. 2 at that time, when it was newly released in CDs, when suddenly dad came in, spoiling the fun by asking a lot of questions and expressing his “thoughts” about the movie.

So here are the tips:

1. If you’re watching a sequel and he happened to haven’t watched the first part, tell him beforehand that it is a sequel. Well, you wouldn’t want to reiterate the whole part 1, right? Just tell him you’ll borrow the part 1 next time so he can watch it.

2. Do not watch any foreign film with subtitle in it with him; dads have tendencies of reading aloud every word.

3. Should you feel like watching sexy romantic movies, make sure your dad isn’t home. You wouldn’t want to receive another dose of his sermon, right? And chances are, you’ll end up always fast forwarding when there are kissing and bed scenes. Mwahaha.
