Mar 22, 2010 Current Events, Politics
Debates among candidates for the national elections, especially those who will run for top positions like presidency and vice-presidency, will help the voters to choose who amongst them deserve their votes.
Currently, there’s an ongoing “Harapan” among the vice presidentiables: Mar Roxas, Mayor Jejomar Binay, Perfecto Yasay, Jay Sonza, Loren Legarda, and Bayani Fernando (minus Edu Manzano, who refused to attend the event).
To watch “Harapan” online and ask questions to the vice-presidentiables, you can logon to http://abs-cbnnews.com/harapan

Jacque Bermejo: A New Internet Sensation
Sep 28, 2009 Current Events
Typhoon “Ondoy” really left a tragic mark on Philippine history. Millions of properties are wasted, hundreds of families were affected, and lives were lost. But despite how tragic it was, the Filipino people have shown their commendable “bayanihan” attitude, as most of our countrymen, multinational companies, celebrities and ordinary people alike helped out with the rescue, prayers, donations and volunteerism.
However, we can expect that some people may take advantage of the situation. Earlier in The Buzz, a local TV talk show, it was reported that some of the taxi drivers raised their fare rates. And if everybody is expressing their heartfelt sentiments and if the affected families were mourning for their loss, one Filipina (or should we call her one?) gained the hatred of most of our countrymen especially in the cyber- and social networking-world because of writing offensive remarks about the situation as she wrote in her Facebook status, which said:
“buti n lng am hir in dubai! maybe so many sinners bak der! so yeah deserving wat hapend!”
This statement was spread all over the social networking sites like Facebook and it has become a Twitter trend topic. One Facebook user created a “hate-page” for her, which has reached almost 4,000 members in a span of hours, was flooded with harsh comments from our kababayans. Her multiply account was also flooded with comments as expected. Right now, she is maybe receiving tons of hate mails also.

Transcript of Sen. Mar Roxas’ Speech (Sept. 1, 2009)
Sep 7, 2009 Current Events
September 1, 2009 (Tuesday) marked another historic event in Philippine politics as Senator Mar Roxas withdraws from presidential race for Senator Noynoy Aquino. Sen. Roxas was applauded for his selflessness and integrity.
Here is the transcript of Sen. Roxas’ speech last Sept. 1, 2009 at Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan:
Country above self. Bayan bago ang sarili.
Iyan ang habilin ng aking lolo, President Manuel Roxas.
Our nation is in trouble. Leadership is bankrupt. Institutions are in disarray. People are hungry.
Noynoy Aquino and I share the same outrage over the mess we are all in, the same way we share the solution-clean, honest, selfless public service.
Marami at matindi ang mga problema ng bansa. Kailangan nating ayusin. Matindi ang kalaban. We need a determined force for good far stronger than the festering evil around us.
We need to fight just as our own fathers fought dictatorship, and just as both died believing that good will conquer evil.
Noynoy and I want to make a difference, but we also know that we need to unite to achieve what we want.
I am the President of the Liberal Party.
It is within my power to preside over a potentially divisive process or to make the party a bridge for the forces of change. I choose to lead unity, not division. Bilang pinuno ng aking Partido, magdedesisyon ako.
Mahal ko ang Partido Liberal. My grandfather founded it. My father led it during the most difficult times of Martial Law. Sa harap ng peligro, sa kabila ng napakaraming tukso-hindi siya sumuko.
He inspired me-to stay the course, to fight the good fight, to pass the test of true character. To believe.
Over the weekend, Noynoy and I had many long conversations… Masinsinang usapan. We agreed: Let us forget about ourselves for a moment. This is not about us, this is about our people and our country. This is about our common dream. The dream of our parents.
But let us not remain a country of dreamers. Tama na ang pangarap. Gawin na natin, ngayon.
Today, I am announcing my support for the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino for President in 2010.
Noy has made it clear to me that he wants to carry the torch of leadership.
The passing of our beloved former President Aquino has reawakened a passion among us. I acknowledge this as fuel to bring us to the realization of our dream: Good will triumph over evil.
Ito na ang pinakamabigat na desisyon sa buhay ko. Maniwala man kayo o hindi, ginagawa ko ito para sa bayan, para sa inyo. I do this for unity in support of change. And if that means that somebody must make the sacrifice, it must be me. Ako na.
To you Noy, I say: I began the campaign to sow the seeds para sa pagbabago at reporma. You must now be the one to grow them in the arena of leadership.
Hindi kami maghihiwalay ni Noy. I will stand with him.
Bayan bago sarili!
Hindi ko kayo pababayaan! Lalaban tayo!

Who Will Run for May 2010 Presidential Elections?
Mar 15, 2009 Current Events
It’s still one year more before the May 2010 elections, yet, most Filipinos are already interested in knowing who will be running for the May 2010 Presidential elections, especially for the top positions like the presidency, vice presidency and senatorial.
Everyone is asking, who will be running for president, vice president and senators?
According to surveys (Pulse Asia), the top contenders for presidency are:
De Castro, Noli “Kabayan” L. – Occupying the second top position being the vice president with clean track records (not much controversy, if any at all, has been associated with his name), he has a potential to run for presidency. He was also urged before to replace President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo by the latter’s detractors during her chaotic times. Being a big media personality before will also be his edge over the other candidates. Although, his insufficient political background may leave the voters rethink if he was to be voted. we are all aware that he became “vice president without experience”, as you many may term it. But then, who can say that vice presidency is not much of an experience to edge the other candidates. Noli de Castro I think will get the support of the masses, especially those who have benefited from his “pabahay” program.
Escudero, Francis “Chiz” G. – His “Say Chiz” slogan resounds to everybody. He has the heart of the youth because of his Youth Empowerment advocacy, which comprise a large part of the voting population. Being the number 1 senator, he has very much potential to run for presidency. In fact, survey says that he tops the people’s choice for presidency. He “Bamboo-look-alike” features which retain to everyone’s mind, is also a plus.
Estrada, Joseph “Erap” – I don’t know if the Filipino voters had lost their sense of judgment but sadly, recent survey says that he’s one of the big contenders for presidency come May 2010 Elections. I guess being the “underdog” which most Filipinos could relate too, has become his edge. Before he was freed from prison due to corruption, plunder and several other charges, he was expressing his disinterest to run for public office again. But what happen when reports surfaced that he is going to run for presidential spot again? When will Filipinos learn again?
Villar, Manuel “Manny/Mr. Sipag at Tiyaga” Jr. – He was known for supporting the Overseas’ Filipino Workers’ (OFW) welfare. His popularly known “rags-to-riches” story clicked to the masses, when he was voted as one of the 12 Senators. His story remains an inspiration to many, especially those from the low socio-economic classes and this will remain his edge over the other candidates.
Other possible presidentiables are Loren Legarda, Manuel Roxas, Panfilo Lacson, and Jejomar Binay.
For vice presidency, survey says that Escudero is pretty much assured of the position if he opted to run for vice president instead. His major opponent will be Loren Legarda, if she also chose to run for the position instead.
For the senatorial race, a recent Pulse Asia Survey ranked the people’s preference for senators which include:
- Estrada, Jinggoy
- Cayetano, Pia “Compañera Pia” S.
- Roxas, Manuel “Mar/Mr.Palengke”
- Defensor-santiago, Miriam
- Drilon, Franklin “Frank” M.
- Madrigal, Jamby
- Revilla, Ramon “Bong” Jr.
- Pimentel, Aquilino “Koko” L.
- Recto, Ralph “Korecto” G.
- Osmena, Sergio “Serge” III
- Sotto, Vicente “Tito” III C
- Gordon, Richard “Dick”
Prominent TV personalities like Edu Manzano, Korina Sanchez and Willie Revillame have also made it to the list of senatoriables and are among the people’s choices.

Rihanna and Chris Brown Reconciliation and Photos
Mar 3, 2009 Current Events, Music
Reports surfaced on entertainment news that Rihanna and Chris Brown has been reunited after the February 8 incident (barely three weeks) where the latter was arrested due to assaulting the former. And report has it that the two the two singers, who previously took the headlines, are now back in each other arms, and reports say that Sean Combs or P. Diddy was behind their reconciliation.
The world felt sympathy for Rihanna, and remorse for Chris Brown when the incident happened. But with this alleged reconciliation, fans of Rihanna were mostly dismayed at it.
Psychologists say that the Rihanna-Chris Brown abuse issues are no different from those other household, domestic or relationship abuse. The victim always comes back to its abuser, and it usually happens after the abuser expresses his “utmost, sincerest apology”. Abusive relationship, they say, is a vicious cycle – it repeats itself over and over again.
Anyway, as a fan of Chris Brown and Rihanna, I was saddened by what happened to them, and I am not one of the fans that express dismay to the reconciliation. I am happy that they have talked things over, as I believe that a good communication can sort things out better. I am for their happiness.
Anyway, these may not be the reconciliation photos but these are some of the photos I collected from the internet showing the happy couples: Read the rest of this entry »
