Several malls in Metro Manila and other provinces have announced their operating hours or schedule on Monday, May 13, election day.
SM Supermalls and Robinsons Malls have opted for shortened mall hours in response to the appeal of the Department of Energy to mall operators, factories and establishments known to consume large amount of power to find away to conserve electricity on election day.
All SM Supermalls will be opened from 12:00 NN, instead of 10:00 AM and closed at 9:00 PM on May 13, except for the following:
- SM Mall of Asia (12NN-10PM)
- Podium (12NN-10PM)
- SM Center Pasig (12NN-11PM)
- SM by the Bay (4PM-12MN)
- SM Marketmall Dasmariñas (12NN-9PM, Wet & Dry Market – Normal Operating Hours / Bagsakan – Normal Operating Hours)
Likewise, Robinsons Malls will also open from 12:00 NN to 9:00 PM.
Meanwhile, all seven major Ayala malls in the country are opening at 10 a.m. as usual. But the Ayala malls will use their own generator sets during peak hours on election day.
DOE appealed to mall oconnection to the widespread blackout that Metro Manila and Luzon experienced last Wednesday. The power outage was secondary to unexpected shutdown of five power plants which supply 45% of electricity in the region.
